Hello Students:

Here is the article we will read together on Monday. Those of you working alone may read this over the weekend, then use your time on Monday to look over any other articles.
Much of the information will repeat in the different articles, so, of course you may skim to search for any new information.
The other task is to look at the terms list and make sure you can talk about each term.

Shie will come to our class on Monday to review SWAY with you. Please go to his teacher page over the weekend to try to understand it so that you have good questions on Monday.

Thanks!

Hello Students:

Here is a link to the article about grey whales that I would like you to read tonight: http://www.bagheera.com/inthewild/van_anim_grywhale.htm

There is also a link to it on Priscilla Lindberg's teacher page under Issues in Indian Country. Choose Makah Whaling as your category and you will find a whole list of articles.

Please annotate or list facts from the article that you believe you could use either in support of or against the Makah right to whale.

If you have extra time, continue your individual reading.

Thanks.

Hello!

Thank you for watching West Side Story with me. We will talk about it more on Friday.

Below is the link to a pdf that lists literary devices with their definitions and examples. For class on Friday, please read Act 4, scenes 1 - 3 and find as many examples of literary devices as you can. Read the Shakespeare version to find metaphors and similes.

See you Friday.

Happy Sunday!

I hope that you have been reading the fateful story of Romeo and Juliet! Please finish Act 3, scene 3 for tomorrow. These acts are full of action. We'll have a brief reading quiz on Monday.

If you have extra time and want to watch a movie, please watch the modern version of Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo. We will be comparing that and our response to it to Westside Story.

Also, please bring your 20 vocabulary words to class tomorrow.

 Hello Students:

Welcome back from vacation!

I hope that you are all doing well and that you are excited for the upcoming quint. I am on jury duty. It feels like an honor and a privilege to be able to participate in the rule of law in this way as a citizen of the United States. I will tell you all about it when I return. Tomorrow may be my last day unless I am selected to sit on a jury for an actual trial.

I hope that you have creative ideas for the painting assignment. Please enjoy the assignment, but please also take it seriously and think deeply about what you do.

Also, please send me a digital copy of your poem from the end of last quint.

Tuesday in class you will be working with Macbeth. This will be a review of our own reading of Macbeth and will be a refresher about Shakespeare, since we will be reading Romeo and Juliet. You will work in the groups that Ellen has assigned. I will provide Emily with the assignment.

Wednesday we will begin with lecture.

I will see you soon.

In your portfolio, please include the following:

Your self evaluation
All drafts of your research paper
Annotated sources for your presentation

Here are questions I remember for the self evaluation that we wrote in class, but if one of you has the actual list, please send it to me and I will correct this.

1. What was your biggest contribution to this class this quint?
2. What, specifically, did you learn?
3. In what way could you improve your performance in this class?
4. What grade would you give to yourself?

Thanks!
See you tomorrow.

Hello Students:

It should finally be sunny and warm this week. Ahhh! This has been an especially brutal winter with all of the cold rain. I hope that you will feel a renewed sense of life and energy as you enjoy Seattle's spring.

Here is the work left on our plate this quint:

Tuesday:
Turn in your vocabulary list of 25 words with short definitions.
(Chen, turn in your research draft. Auggie, turn in your sources and outlines.)

Be prepared for your presentation.

Wednesday:
In class writing on Canterbury Tales.

Thursday:
Vocabulary Test

Friday:
All research paper final drafts should be complete and turned in.

I will return your tests to you tomorrow. I have posted sample answers for you to look at, but you may also ask during conference if you have any questions.
