Reading Guide
Analyze the following three lines:
- Name the speaker and the person to whom he is speaking.
- Describe the context.
- Explain the significance
- What does it show about a major conflict or theme in the play?
- What does it show about a character’s personality or motivations?
- What does it show about the relationship between characters?
There’s no way to read a man’s mind
by looking at his face. I trusted Cawdor completely.
Our duty to you and your state is
like the duty of children to their father or servants to their master. By doing
everything we can to protect you, we’re only doing what we should.
Stars, hide your light so no one can
see the terrible desires within me. I won’t let my eye look at what my hand is
doing, but in the end I’m still going to do that thing I’d be horrified to see.
