Hello Students:

I hope that you are all enjoying your time reading Oedipus and discussing and debating in class. I have heard that a number of you are actively contributing. That is wonderful! Both Alex and Wendy spoke during the debate in my section today. Hooray!

At home, remember, you need to be reading the beginning of The Giver. It may be slow going - it is hard to understand at first. However, I promise that once we start discussing it in class, you will all love the book!

I want you to read chapters 1-4 by Monday.

I have posted summaries of most of those chapters for those of you who are struggling to understand the novel. I have also posted reading questions in Reading Guides for chapters 1 - 3.

For the reading questions, please do the following:

• Find the section of the book that answers the question.
• Underline or highlight this section.
• Write the question number in the margin.
• Be prepared to share your answers in class on Monday.
