Hello Students:


Tomorrow is Community Engagement, so I will not see you again until Wednesday. Here is what I would like you to do between now and then.


1. Look at my mini essay assignment sample and revise your work so that you have a strong thesis statement and one well written body paragraph that includes a direct quotation. I want to see the changes you make, so please print a copy of your work before you revise it, then print another copy after you revise. Please bring both drafts to turn in on Wednesday.


2. Finish reading chapter 8 and 9 of The Giver.


I have posted a reading guide for those chapters. I will ask you to share your responses to the reading guide at the beginning of class on Wednesday.


Then, we will have a discussion in which each of you will make one statement, positive or negative,  about what you think of this society. Come to class prepared with this statement written. 


Be ready to defend your statement with three passages from anywhere in the book. What do these passages show? Why are they important? Come to class with the page numbers of these statements written.


As always, review vocabulary and definitions of the Political Element and The Economic Element.
