Preparation for Discussion 

We will discuss the Political Element of Jonas’s community. In order to prepare for the discussion, please do the following tasks: 

• Mark every rule we have read in Chapters 1-3. 
• How are rules changed in the community? 
• What is the purpose of The Speakers? (Look at the times they have spoken: pages 2-3 and 28-29) 
• Who are the leaders of the community and what do we know about them? 
• What kinds of decisions or parts of life are controlled by the government in this community that are not controlled by the government in your community? Make a list. 
• Think about the following question: 

From what you know of this community so far, would you want to live there? Why or why not?
